Background Information

Over the next few years, both the business community and society at large will be increasingly exposed to the consequences of the demographic change.

This change happens very slowly, but Saxony in particular will bear the full brunt of this development.
This development is unrivaled in history, making the lack of skilled employees a topic which is currently being discussed quite fiercely.

Saxony’s economy is expanding continuously and has transformed into an internationally competitive high tech location over the past few years. To a large extent, its success depends on the technical qualification of its engineers and scientists as well as the knowledge and expertise of its skilled workers.

New growth regions have emerged, and with an investment rate of 23.2 percent (2007), the Free State ranks first among all German federal states*. It goes without saying that the number of skilled employees who are hired always follows the economic trend. Ultimately, as a result of the demographic trend, the future economic success will depend specifically on whether it is possible to continuously increase the basis for self-responsibility, a positive attitude towards work, and the willingness to assume risks.

In Saxony, significantly more than two thirds of all new jobs fall under the category of qualified work which emphasizes the importance and relevance of education and training as a key factor, on the one hand, and poses entirely new challenges to general and continued vocational education and training, on the other hand.

In order not to jeopardize the future opportunities of the business venue Saxony, it is essential to join forces in business, government, and society at large and, thus, raise more interest in economic processes and the associated occupational fields.

The ProfiSACHS pilot project will assist Saxon enterprises in their anticipated human resource management and derive the requisite customized projects for fostering skilled employees in order to generate new technologies.

Within the network initiatives Saxony Automotive Supplier Network (AMZ), Saxony's Mechanical Engineering Network (VEMAS), Network for Railway Technologies in Saxony (BTS), and Innovation Network Textile (INNtex), the respective detailed branch-specific and cross-branch requirement profiles are ascertained and continuously updated as the basis for sustained human resource management in the participating companies.
