Lightweight construction

European Lightweight Cluster Alliance

Green light for the ELCA network from the Executive Agency for SMW (EASME) for the promotion of cluster internationalization as part of the call COS-CLUSINT-2019-3-01.

This call aims to intensify cross-border and cross-sectoral cooperation in order to support the European strategic cluster partnerships, as they lead international cluster cooperation beyond Europe. The campaign will be carried out by five ELCA partners from May 2020 to 2022 and will involve the six working groups of the network.

The project is led by the AMZ network of automotive suppliers Saxony from Germany. The partners Plastipolis (France), ClustER-Mech (Italy), Bydgoszcz Industrial Cluster (Poland) and Clúster de Materials Avançats de Catalunya (Spain) are integrated.

The aim is to promote the use of European lightweight construction products, technologies and services on markets in third countries by developing a joint internationalization strategy. Five stages of the value chain in four mobility sectors are considered: aerospace, aviation, automotive, rail and shipping. Two types of markets are addressed. For mature markets, the US and Japan will be the starting point. For less mature markets, India and regions in Latin America will be the starting point. Through this project, the ELCA network will consolidate its expansion on a global level and increase the strength and visibility of European lightweight construction solutions for reducing CO2 emissions.
