Successful demonstration run of the "Autonomous Street Sweeper" in Michigan
On January 18, 2022, Michigan USA, AMZ Sachsen and its partners FAUN Viatec from Grimma (DE) and New Eagle (US) took part in a milestone meeting of the “Autonomous Street Sweeper” project – the first demonstration drive of the street sweeper – at the American Center for Mobility in Ypsilanti, Township. Project manager Thomas Keltsch (AMZ) and his colleague Alexander Helbych (AMZ) are delighted that this important step was taken in the USA. The chassis from Daimler Benz was brought to the USA by FAUN Viatec in 2021, where it was equipped with drive-by-wire technology by our American partner New Eagle from Ann Arbor (MI).
FAUN Viatec will complete the sweeper after its return. Our partners FusionSystems and NAVENTIK from Chemnitz (DE) will drive automation in Germany in the coming weeks. After presenting the concept truck for autonomous sweeping at IFAT fair 2022 in Munich there will be tests in Saxony and at the DEKRA Lausitzring in Southern Brandenburg. In 2023 the vehicle will be presented for an in-field demonstration in the USA.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and in part by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) in partnership with the Office of Future Mobility and Electrification. The project grew out of the Transatlantic Autonomous Driving Alliance (TADA) which seeks to create a network that connects US and German companies around emerging vehicle technologies.
